Our History
Bay Area Inspection Agency was founded by Walter “Walt” Granger Jr in 1999. Walter has been a prominent figure in the electrical industry in Cecil County, MD and started his electrical career in 1962 as a 16 year old apprentice for Charlestown Electric. Through the years, he advanced from apprentice to journeyman and, finally, to master electrician. His experience includes residential, commercial, industrial, line work and service work. As time passed, he saw a need for further electrical education opportunities in Cecil County and began teaching in 1981. He has gained a reputation of being a very knowledgeable, personable and, even, entertaining teacher. Walter still conducts CE seminars with BAIA and enjoys sharing whatever knowledge he can to improve the electrical industry.
In 1985, Walter began inspecting for the Middle Department Inspection Agency and prior to founding BAIA, he also worked for Atlantic Inland Inspection Agency as Chief Electrical Inspector for Cecil County. As founder, owner and first Chief Electrical Inspector with Bay Area Inspection Agency, he worked to positively influence the electrical industry in Cecil County.
In later years, BAIA hired additional inspectors, including two of Walter’s sons, Walter Granger III and Wayne Granger. Both followed in their father’s footsteps as master electricians and certified third party electrical inspectors. Walter III has since put his tools back on to work in the field for himself.
Upon Walter Jr’s retirement, Wayne took over the family electrical inspection business, working to continue the business with the same great principles it was founded on. Wayne and Walter Jr continue to teach continuing education together. They strive to make the classroom environment a place where electrical professionals can interact with the instructor and other participants to encourage engagement, growth and to keep the electrical industry as safe as possible.
